He and his nephew, Leroy "Roy" Green, Jr., were on board their 40-foot boat near Money Island when the boat developed a leak during the storm (same storm that took the lives of Rufus Davis, Paul Robbins and Willard Robbins). Roy held his uncle up for three hours until they were spotted by Miles Gandy of Gandy's Beach and Jerry Sutton who rescued them. Frederick had lived in Millville and moved to Fortescue a year before his death.

Buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
