He was on his father's (Samuel T. Veach) oyster boat with younger brothers, Jarvis and Sam, Jr. on the Delaware Bay out of Maurice River. He was struck in the head by the sail boom, knocked overboard and drowned. Javis and Sam, Jr. recovered Thomas' body the next day using a rowboat.

Buried at the Leesburg Cemetery with his mother Almeda and father Samuel T. Veach, Sr.
